Duties of a SIGCHI President
Past SIGCHI Chair describes the duties of the SIGCHI President (formerly known as the SIGCHI Chair)
As Chair I was responsible for essentially everything in the end, the-buck-stops-here guy. I spent a large portion of my time forging and strengthening partnerships–with ACM, with other SIGs, and with outside organizations such as the British HCI Society. I was the key spokesperson for the organization, speaking on behalf of SIGCHI at events such as the CHI Conference and giving interviews to the press. I was also responsible for running meetings of the SIGCHI Executive Committee, making sure that we’re moving forward and making progress on key initiatives. As Past Chair, I have one goal: making sure that we get better at elections in the future. We should be starting earlier, and we should be using an electronic voting mechanism.
